If you’ve never been to the Maine woods – or if it’s been a while - the first thing you may notice is the air: how soft it feels, how wonderfully fragrant with the scents of balsam, mosses, and earth. The next thing you may notice is the quiet. For some of our guests, the quiet takes a little getting used to – especially if you’re used to city-living. Regardless of what first catches your attention, we’re pretty sure that soon you’ll to realize that you’ve arrived at a special place and – for a time – it’s yours to experience, savor, and enjoy. We invite you to unplug, disconnect, and relax. “Easterly” is a family cottage located on the western shore of East Grand Lake in Weston, Maine. East Grand is one of a series of interconnected lakes comprising an international body of water shared with Canada. Easterly is a two-story cottage available for rent from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This is a place for fishing… for boating… for swimming… a place to unwind and a place to recharge! Occupancy is limited to six people. All linens are provided. Bring your food, beverages, and clothing and you’re ready to enjoy. The kitchen is completely outfitted. There is a refrigerator, a full-size Kenmore gas stove, a microwave oven, Whirlpool clothes washer and dryer, and a Bosch dishwasher. There is an AM-FM/CD radio in the kitchen. The primary water source for Easterly is right outside the front door: lake water. Since some folk aren’t so sure about drinking it (we have for decades), water for drinking is supplied from our well. In the living room, there is a large dining room table with chairs for six by the lakeside front window, and a sofa and two chairs. Please note that there is no television service; however, there is a flat-panel television connected to a VCR/DVD player. There are many DVDs, books and board games available. Two bedrooms are located downstairs, each entered from the living room. Each has a comfortable double bed and the back bedroom includes an en suite bathroom with shower. A separate bathroom with shower is downstairs, on the opposite side of the living room from the bedrooms. Since Maine weather can surprise you early or late in the season (or even in the midst of it!), portable electric floor heaters are provided and if you need an extra blanket, one is always close at hand. The upstairs is one large pine-paneled bedroom with two twin beds, electric floor heaters, and an incredible view of the lake. A spot we’re sure you’ll come to love is the wonderful screened porch that spans most of the cottage on the lake side. Share good food and good times while dining at the picnic table and its two benches. Kick back in one of the camp chairs provided and enjoy a cup of coffee while you read or just watch the sunlight playing on the water. In the evening, sip your beverage-of-choice as you listen for the calls of the lake’s loons. East Grand Lake is a true “North Woods” lake: it’s gin-clear, deep, cold, rimmed with pine trees, and is home to an abundant population of white granite boulders of all shapes and sizes. Easterly’s shoreline is in keeping with its North Woods surroundings. A spit formed of boulders borders one side of the shoreline and offers some anchoring protection from north winds. If you wish to bring your boat, a public boat launch/landing is very close at hand and, at Easterly, a dock is available for use at renter’s option and risk (remember: granite boulders, quite a few of them). We do not accept responsibility for any damage to boats, kayaks, canoes or watercraft of any type. Important: smoking inside the cottage is prohibited. No animals are allowed. If you want to venture abroad, how about a day trip to Canada (bring your passport!)? Visits to St. Andrew’s or Campobello, New Brunswick are easily made in a day. Or head down to Maine’s scenic coast for the freshest Maine lobster/shore dinner you’ve ever had. Eastport – the easternmost city in the continental United States – is a little over an hour’s drive away or go farther afield and visit Acadia National Park. Mount Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine and the starting/ending point of the Appalachian Trail is also a day trip easily done. The Town of Houlton is 30 miles north on US 1. The rental fee is $1,200 a week. A deposit of $300 is required in advance to confirm a reservation. Cancellation notice must be provided at least 30 days in advance of intended date of stay or deposit will be forfeited unless the cottage is rented for the same period. It is necessary to add the State of Maine room tax of 9 per cent to the total. Thank you for your interest in Easterly! If we’ve piqued your interest, don’t hesitate to contact us - we’d love to hear from you.

Cottage (600 sq. ft.) in Benedicta, ME
25 miles from East Grand Lake
Located twenty feet from the water’s edge. This 600 square foot cottage was renovated in 2011. One bedroom with 1 Queen bed. New mattress.. Futon in the living room pulls out to make a second bed. Modern kitchen has custom pine cabinetry with a solid Tiger Maple countertop and includes an electric stove/oven and refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes, bowls, pots, pans, and utensils. 37” flat-screen TV with ‘Dish’ service, and DVD/VCR player. Heat pump central heat and cooling. Board games in the toy chest. This cabin is neat and clean. Modern bathroom with new toilet and shower. Large custom dining room table, and comfortable leather furniture. Knotty pine walls and ceilings, new windows, pine and tile floors complemented with neat white window and door trim make for a very cozy and relaxing ambiance. Drilled well/tested water. New electrical service throughout including hard wired smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector. Outdoors has a water’s edge sitting area with a fire-ring, ample seating including a 2-person swing. (this is a perfect place to hang out during the day, to watch the sun set over the pond, or take in a big night sky and listen to the loons call) Propane BBQ grill. Eight foot picnic table. 36’ dock to sit out on and / or dock your boat to. Four kayaks with paddles and a large canoe are on site and available for use although you will need to supply your own life jackets to ensure a proper fit. The property also has a small shed for extra storage. The cottage is located on a private dirt road with just the local cottage traffic which is minimal. This is a great spot to spend a week relaxing and enjoying. The ‘pond’ is 435 acres with an average depth of about 20 feet. (This size body of water is considered a lake in most states) The fishing is usually very good and you will catch smallmouth bass, white perch, and pickerel. There are often sunfish under the dock if you have youngsters who want to catch a small but colorful fish. Morning or evening kayaking on the pond is great. Boat traffic is light. Swimming in the pond is good as well: you’re not at a sandy beach, but the area next to the dock is sandy/silty and makes for a good place for the kids to swim around. The water entrance is gradual, getting to about three feet at the end of the 36 foot dock, then begins to get rocky and goes to 6’ = 8’ of water at about 50’ from shore. Baxter State Park is about one hour away. Google: Baxter State Park for specific information. If you’d like to get away from camp for a day, this large state park will provide you a drive where you’ll see woods, lakes, streams, mountains and wildlife. There are many hiking opportunities in the park. A hike to Chimney Pond, located at the base of Mt. Katahdin, will provide you with a destination and vista that you will never forget. I would suggest getting up early, packing a small daypack with a lunch and water, driving to Roaring Brook Campground, and hiking the 3 mile hike (one way) to Chimney Pond to have your lunch looking over the Chimney Pond and the ‘bowl’ of Mt. Katahdin. Get back to camp for an evening BBQ and dinner sitting lakeside while watching the sun go down over Plunkett Pond. It makes for a perfect day. For the fit and adventurous, Mt Katahdin provides a world class hike and views. It’s a full day hike and the views are beautiful but please prepare accordingly. The newly crated Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is only 13 miles from the cottage. Google Down East Magazine Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument for specific information. Fishing on the pond is very good for bass, pickerel and white perch. Ask if you have any questions, I’ve fished the pond extensively. There are many ‘woods roads’ and ATV Trails in the local area. The ATV trail is just up the road. I can give you much more information about the trail system should you desire. Many of the woods roads are navigable via SUV, pickup truck and even a sedan if you’re careful. You might see deer, moose, grouse, rabbits, waterfowl, birds, mink, pine marten, beaver, or a very occasional black bear Hunting is very good in the fall for ruffed grouse, deer, bear, and moose. The hunting is very good and there is very little posted land. There are abundant woods roads and skidder trails that provide great grouse, bear, moose and deer. The grouse hunting is excellent as is the bear hunting. Moose is by state lottery permit only. The camp is in WMD zone 11 and we are 3 miles from zone 10. 18-hole golf course in Island Falls - 30 minutes. Cell phone reception is good with Verizon and US Cellular.

No cars, no noise, just the rustle of a breeze through the pine trees, the song of a chickadee and the occasional call of a loon. You work hard. You deserve a break! This is Jennie Cottage, in Northern Maine, the most forested state in the country. Located about one hour north of Bangor, the cottage is an easy 10 minute drive from I-95. It is close to Baxter State Park, the newly designated Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument (87,500 acres of wilderness) and beautiful Mt. Katahdin (the start or end point of the Appalachian Trail). Canada is about 1 hour away and Acadia National Park is a 2.5 hour trip. With virtually no traffic, on a dirt road, the property is very child friendly (although supervision is a must near the lake, of course). Well-behaved dogs are welcome, too! Inside, you’ll find a knotty pine interior which features a cozy living room with a large TV and a DVD player (bring your own DVD’s). A new addition to the cottage is satellite TV and high-speed internet service. There is a spacious dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen has everything you might need, including a refrigerator/freezer, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven and even a bread machine. The water is well water, from an underground spring and we do have hot water! Towels and bed linens are provided but you might want to bring beach towels. The cottage sleeps six–one bedroom has a full-sized bed with an ultra-comfy memory foam mattress and the other bedroom has two twin beds, both with memory foam mattresses. There are also two twin-sized Aerobeds that you can put on the floor for two more people. The beds are dressed with high-quality sheets and fluffy, goose down comforters are available for each. In the summer months, the bunkhouse is available and sleeps 2. The bunkhouse has no electricity and no heat and even in the summertime, nights in Maine can be fairly chilly--but it could be the perfect spot for adventurous kids with flashlights! There is no landline phone and cell service depends on your carrier. Outside, is the wild beauty of Plunkett Pond, which is a mere 50 feet from the back door. You can practically roll out of bed and into the lake! Two single-seat kayaks with paddles and life jackets are available. You can cruise the 435 acres of sparkling clean water, observing a wide variety of wildlife, including red squirrels, chipmunks, woodpeckers, muskrats, beavers, raccoons, moose, deer, fox, eagles, ospreys, kingfishers, partridge and of course, Maine’s famous loons. If you prefer to relax, you can lounge by the water’s edge, watching the reflection of the clouds in the water until you drift off into a peaceful nap in your lakeside hammock. There is also a small dock and a picnic table. In the evening, you can build a crackling fire in the outdoor firepit while listening to the loons and bull frogs. Roast some weenies or make s’mores! There is also a charcoal grill available, so you can cook your freshly caught fish on the grill! Bring your fishing gear! (Please be aware that this site, as well as any other site, has scammers. These criminals will pose as the owner of the property and steal your money. If anyone asks you to deposit money directly into a Barclays Bank account, do NOT do it, as that is the preferred bank of these types and usually, all involved are uncooperative about getting your money back, so please be careful and make sure you are dealing with the real owner. Also, please keep in mind that some weeks shown as unavailable on the calendar may still be available, so please ask if you have a specific week or weeks in mind). We would love for you to be our guests at Jennie Cottage. We like to think that our lakeside retreat captures the essence of the Maine state slogan, “Maine: Life as it should be.” Your memories of your vacation here will last a lifetime.

Our love for the great outdoors, the solitude, the miles of undeveloped shoreline, are things that we do not take for granted. The amazing wildlife, moose, deer, loons and eagles are just some of the things you will see while visiting. Whether it is kayaking, boating, canoeing or just finding the perfect cove or island for a picnic, you will find the lack of seeing boat after boat and bustling refreshing. In the evening sit back and relax by our lakeside fire pit on the swing. If this 7x2 mile lake is not enough to keep you busy and entertained you can also reach by boat, kayak or canoe another 11 lakes. Can be seen on Google Earth just type in the address bar Junior Lake Maine and it will take you to Boyce cove. Keywords: Private, cozy lakefront cabin. Relax, fish, swim, kayak, canoe, boat or hike.

Our home is located on a quiet street near the Penobscot River. It is conveniently close to I-95, yet far enough away so as not to be bothered by noisy traffic. The neighborhood includes spacious yards, and anything you could want may be found by driving mere minutes into town. Enjoy all the great outdoors has to offer, then return back for hot showers, a kitchen to prepare meals and a washer and dryer for your laundry. Travelers who prefer not to explore the great outdoors (and weary explorers) may enjoy the internet access and streaming television. Nearby activities include hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife tours, leaf peeping (enjoying autumn foliage) and more. We are located near the Katahdin Woods and Waterway National Monument, 28 miles from Baxter State Park and 34 miles from Mount Katahdin. Snowmobile trails can be accessed directly from the property, with no need to load a trailer and drive elsewhere. While we are 10-15 minutes outside of Millinocket, our spacious yard and quiet street make it more than worth the extra 10 miles on your way to Mount Katahdin, your whitewater rafting adventure or other expedition. We find our bird feeder empty about twice a week in the summer. We have hummingbirds that frequent our property, as well as a variety of songbirds. The honeysuckle and smoke bushes in the front yard are very popular among our feathered neighbors. Drink your morning coffee in front of the window and see how many species of birds you can spot before heading out for the day. We are currently rebuilding our breezeway entrance. No work will be performed while guests are on site. Please do pardon the appearance of our entryway while we are rebuilding.
